Take a behind-the-scenes look in time lapse at the careful removal of two 8 tonne escalators located just 8m away from a fully operational commercial tower lobby and cafe at Melbourne’s 360 Collins Street. Buildcorp is undertaking a major podium redevelopment for client DEXUS, which spans two levels and services 35 floors of commercial offices.
The challenge with this part of the construction program was to remove the 8 tonne structures without impacting the ground slab’s weight capacity. Buildcorp’s subcontractor and site team worked together to find the best solutions which included installing load spreading steel at the top of the escalators to ensure the 500kg/m2 slab capacity was not exceeded during the process.
