Buildcorp’s leadership in sustainability has helped to achieve a 5 Star Green Star – Education v1 As Built rating for the Western Sydney University Kingswood College project.
The 5 Star Green Star rating represents ‘Australian Excellence’ in environmentally sustainable construction and was achieved after a Round 1 Assessment from the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). The GBCA noted the ‘excellent work of the project team’ and highlighted that the 5 Star Green Star rating is a rare achievement after only the first round of assessment.
Western Sydney University’s $4.8m College Teaching project is a 1,400m2 facility located at their Kingswood Campus. Buildcorp managed the delivery of the new college and surrounding infrastructure, external works and landscaping. The facility consists of laboratories, lecture rooms, a lecture theatre and amenities. Sustainable design features included energy efficient lighting and HVAC systems, water efficient fixtures, rainwater harvesting and systems for reporting building usage statistics to users after the facility opened.
Buildcorp’s sustainability commitment was evident from day one, as we carefully selected suppliers and sub-contractors who met all of the sustainability criteria the Green Star rating required, including sustainably sourced timber, recycled steel, low VOC paints and PVC free materials. Our joinery arm Euroline was one of the successful sub-contractors, as they supplied the joinery for the project.
Buildcorp managed the regular sustainability reporting process and each month required the sub-contractors to submit reports to assess how they were performing against the criteria. We ran daily sustainability inductions for everyone who came to site, as well as safety inductions, to ensure they understood the context and aspirations of the project.

“The built environment is currently the world’s largest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and the Green Star program helps to improve environmental efficiencies in buildings, which has a positive impact on productivity and the health and wellbeing of communities.”
