APRIL 2017: Buildcorp has announced an important expansion to their grassroots rugby support, signing up as the Principal Sponsor of the Melbourne University Rugby Football Club (MURFC) in time for the 2017 season. The Buildcorp logo features front and centre on the Premier 1st XV jersey with the aim of supporting more men and women to play rugby.
Buildcorp has been an Associate Sponsor of the Club since 2011, approximately two years before their Victorian operations began in Melbourne. Buildcorp’s increased support from Associate Sponsor to Principal Sponsor in 2017 also signifies the growth of their Victorian business, which has delivered a diverse portfolio of projects across the education, professional offices, and hospitality/retail sectors.
MURFC is now the third rugby club across Australia’s east coast to carry the Buildcorp logo on the front of their jersey, the others are: the University of Sydney Rugby Football Club which began over 26 years ago and the University of Queensland Rugby Football Club. Buildcorp also supports the University of Newcastle Rugby Club.
Headquartered in the inner Melbourne suburb of Parkville, MURFC has a history that dates back to 1909 and it was one of the foundation clubs to establish the Victorian Rugby Union. Each year the Club competes against nine teams over 18 Rounds in the Direct Connect Dewar Shield, a local competition that is the lifeblood of rugby in Victoria.
Tony Sukkar, Buildcorp Managing Director said: “Team sport is big part of Buildcorp’s culture and often how we choose to enjoy time with our families, colleagues and clients. Buildcorp shares Melbourne University Rugby Football Club’s passion for the game and we are committed to continuing our support of Australia’s grassroots rugby community. As such, we are proud to be increasing our support of MURFC to be their Principal Sponsor in 2017.
“This sponsorship adds to Buildcorp’s already extensive support of rugby, commencing over 26 years ago with the Sydney University Rugby Football Club and growing across the east coast with our business footprint. In recent years, we have also broadened our support to national levels through the Buildcorp National Rugby Championship and more recently, our support of the Buildcorp Wallaroos, the Australian Women’s Rugby XVs team.”
