Buildcorp’s Queensland team has been recognised with a 2016 Master Builder’s Construction Award for the $11m transformation of the Logan Hyperdome’s Market Room fresh food precinct. The 2016 Brisbane Housing and Construction Awards, presented by Master Builders Queensland, were announced at a gala dinner at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane on Friday 8 July.
Buildcorp’s Hyperdome project for client QIC won the Refurbishment/Renovation over $10 million construction category. The Hyperdome is one of Australia’s largest single-level shopping centres and its Market Room fresh food precinct, now more than 4,000m2, was transformed in a major refurbishment and extension over a 40 week program which completed July 2015.
Buildcorp’s Project Manager Christina Roud oversaw the works which consisted of stripping out the existing building structure, tying new steel-framed structures to the existing building, construction of a new entry way, as well as new flooring, landscaping and roadways. The team worked during the days and the evenings to deliver the external and internal works, while minimising impact on the Hyperdome’s live operations and maintaining safety standards for shoppers and staff. Uniquely, the project also consisted of a majority female site team which challenged industry norms.
The new Market Room fresh food precinct now offers a variety of casual eat-in dining options and a selection of specialty fresh food stores, amid an urban market-styled environment.
