Blue Mountains Cultural Centre & Katoomba library

Katoomba Library is an exciting part of the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, a 21st century facility to deliver programs which merge information, art and literature in an electronic age. It incorporates an Aboriginal Knowledge Centre and exhibit area.

The Library element of the project consisted of many detailed areas including new meeting rooms including audiovisual services and an operable wall allowing the meeting room to be split into 2 areas, children’s area, senior’s area, breakout/casual areas, reservation, serial & aboriginal display areas, general library areas and new Administration, workroom, storage and tea room areas for staff.

The Cultural Centre element of the project consisted of many areas for the public including a new seminar room, reception, foyer, café, gallery and a multi-purpose room which can be booked for workshops and for the staff of the Cultural Centre a new administration area, directors offices and locker area and kitchenette.
Works to these areas included services works, partitions, operable walls, structural steel stairs, balustrades, detailed joinery, stages, floor finishes, tactile. stair nosings, painting, library shelving, loose furniture, gallery movable walls, lockers, compactus & signage.

Despite unforeseen delays to the commencement of the project, Buildcorp worked collaboratively with the Council and consultants to ensure the project was a great success for all parties involved.
