Darling Park Podium Retail Upgrade

The works consisted of a staged upgrade to the retail areas within the lower and upper podium levels of Darling Park. This included the creation of six retail/food tenancies on the lower podium level, additional seating areas, disability access upgrade works, the construction of storerooms, new sanitary facilities and the construction of 3 new bar/food tenancies on the upper podium level.

Externally two new pavilion structures were constructed in the existing renowned Crescent Gardens, including a new stair link through the existing pond area surrounded by glass traveling down into the lower podium retail area. The crescent garden area provided a challenge in material transport to an enclosed area, this included pavilions steel, pebbled roof material, detailed timber ceilings and timber frame tiled floors as well as large trees as part of the new landscaped areas. The 3 areas of bathrooms included stone floors, unique tiles varying from mosaics to Italian imported tiles, coffered ceilings, custom made toilet partitions, stone clad vanities and large mirrors.

The entire areas affected by new works had a complete upgrade of services including electrical, fire, hydraulic and mechanical to accommodate the new retail demands, this had its challenges with special requirements often running up existing shafts and squeezing into tight spaces. As all works were completed in a busy live environment, hours of operation were restricted during the day and with mandatory noise restrictions at night careful planning and execution was critical.
