Local coordination delivers Event Cinemas Complex in Smithfield, Cairns

Longstanding Buildcorp partner Event Hospitality & Entertainment took our project team up to far north Queensland to deliver their latest Event Cinemas complex in Smithfield Shopping Centre, Cairns. The project scope involved an extension to the Shopping Centre incorporating the new cinema complex. The fit-out of the cinemas included five General Auditoriums and a Vmax theatre, the largest Vmax screen of its kind north of Brisbane.

ECI projections & local support

An Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) arrangement enabled Buildcorp to assist with the design process and offer value engineering options to meet the cost plan budget. In addition to providing cost-saving solutions, Buildcorp managed the additional lead times on materials to ensure the program remained on track. Local trades were employed throughout the project which enabled defect management to happen efficiently and quickly.

Buildcorp coordinated with the base builder throughout the project to manage access and deliveries on shared access roads. Coordination with services trades was also critical, particularly fire and electrical who provide both provide feeds to the cinema doors and projectors that are vital to patron safety in the event of a fire.
