Meriden Greenhalgh Centre for Music & Drama

Successful ECI and delivery nestled in the centre of an operational school campus

Buildcorp collaboratively worked with consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers in this ECI to GMP project, assisting Meriden School with the design finalisation of a complex new build within the school’s live campus. As part of the ECI process, Buildcorp held numerous design workshops for critical elements including curtain walls, structural steel, feature stairs and joinery, and drew on our industry partners to ensure the final design was delivered within the agreed budget and program.

The construction of the Meriden Centre for Music and Drama included excavating and shoring a split two-level basement followed by the construction of a 5-storey building from basement level 2 to roof which hosts drama performance spaces, practice rooms, amphitheatre, classrooms, staffrooms, boardrooms, and amenities. Additionally, ongoing collaboration and planning between Buildcorp and Meriden School enabled the project to be delivered in two stages, providing students and staff early access to highly anticipated basement level performance and practice spaces, whilst the remaining construction works were completed in the upper levels.

Live-environment track record provides certainty to school

Buildcorp managed the construction process with minimal impact to Meriden’s operations and no loss to existing teaching facilities, services, bus zones or pick up/drop off zones. All campus operational requirements were considered in every aspect of construction planning, and a frequent and open dialogue with Meriden School was the key to success.
