NSW Health Statewide Biobank

A new, world leading research facility, the first and largest of its kind in Australia

The NSW Health State Biobank, located within the Professor Marie Bashir Centre in Camperdown, is the first state-wide biobank in New South Wales and the largest biobank of its kind in Australia. Buildcorp was engaged to deliver the fit-out of this world class facility, which comprises of new PC2 laboratory facilities and ancillary spaces, cold storage facility including provision for cryovats, ultra-low temperature freezers and an Automatic Cold Storage System (ACSS), new collection centre, new office space including amenities and a new boardroom.

Live health environment

The project took place within an operational health facility and as such, infection control was front of mind. The team ensured that the site was cleaned several times a day, and strict dust and sediment control protocols were put in place. Members of the site team and some subcontractors were required to “scrub up” and follow clinical protocol at times to complete works within certain areas of the facility.

Through the use of BIM technology, the team were able to capture as-built information of the existing services, allowing them to review and revise the services coordination before installation, avoiding potential lengthy delays.
