Life-saving façade waterproofing solutions delivered in half the time

This 15 year old apartment building was suffering from extensive water penetration. Buildcorp’s investigations discovered that the cavity flashing detail was not functioning correctly due to:

  • No flashing downturn
  • Debris in the cavity
  • Torn cavity flashings

As a consequence, water was penetrating into individual apartments and the Cotegran render was delaminating and falling from the building. In collaboration with Ardex Australia, the project team developed a Butynol cavity flashing detail. This solution resulted in a quick installation and allowed the team to turn down the flashing and apply a texture coat that gave the impression that no downturn had occurred.

Along with approximately 1.1km of cavity flashing, the project team undertook concrete repairs to the slab edges, repaired and replaced the render and painted the building with an Ardex membrane system.

Thanks to our smart methodology and robust management systems, the project was delivered in only eight months, less than half the estimated time by our competitors. This achieved significant time and cost savings for our client and minimised inconvenience to the residents.
