Quay Restaurant

Prototyping & coordination deliver high end dining experience

Buildcorp delivered the high-end/high impact fit-out of Sydney’s iconic Quay restaurant over 12 weeks. The restaurant is located in the busy area of ‘The Rocks’ fronting Sydney Harbour, where there was a high level of surrounding works; therefore, a considered program and local logistics planning were essential.

The restaurant’s new layout maximises views of Sydney Harbour, with an organic design inspired by nature. The high-end finishes included the curved slatted ceiling, which had to align harmoniously with the curved elements of the floor finishes and joinery below. Detailed survey work and coordination enabled the customised integration of all services into the ceiling, floors and joinery.

Unique nature-inspired finishes include the custom stingray eye patterned leather divides, volcanic lava stone benchtop detailing, glazed with a ‘cracked bark’ pattern, and a series of blue carpet pools referencing the ocean. This detailing required meticulous coordination between overseas’ manufacturers and Buildcorp’s joinery division, Euroline.

To create the perfect ambience for each guest, the team organised test-fits and prototyping with full-scale templates which identified the perfect positioning of all joinery and furniture. Each table also features independently controlled lighting which changes throughout every customer’s dining experience.
