St Paul’s College West Wing & Graduate House

A modern design befitting the historic surrounds of Australia's original university college.

Located within the University of Sydney main campus, the new West Wing and Graduate House for St Paul’s College adds an additional 130 modern rooms to the college, as well as communal and breakout spaces, dining areas and commercial kitchen across two buildings, linked by a lower ground basement level. The development also incorporates spaces that are specifically used by the University of Sydney consisting of office, teaching and general purpose areas.

Early Contractor Involvement to drive value

Throughout the ECI process, Buildcorp was challenged to develop a design sympathetic with the campus’ history surroundings, while embracing modern, cost effective construction techniques and materials. Our solution included:

  • A glazing system that delivered the aesthetic of a residential system with the cost effectiveness and reliability of a commercial product
  • An off-site prefabricated bathroom solution was implemented to minimise the volume of trades on site and ensure the quality and consistency of finishes
  • Flexibility built into the structural design, allowing for additional undergraduate facilities at a later stage
  • Cost effective solutions for the pitched roof and a block work and rendered façade solution to maintain the architectural intent

Situated within a live university campus, Buildcorp developed a construction methodology that minimised the impact on the College and worked with adjoining University stakeholders to ensure the highest safety standards.
