Sydney Aquatic Centre

On behalf of the Sydney Olympic Park Authority, Aurecon appointed Buildcorp Asset Solutions to carry out remedial works to the Sydney Aquatic Centre, Homebush. The works were performed while the Aquatic Centre remained open. What set the project team apart from our competitors was our excellent track record in protecting the public’s safety and wellbeing, and our collaborative approach with tenants to stage the works in a manner that minimises delay and disruption to their operations.

The client was concerned with the collapsing structure, significant concrete cancer, leaking pool scum gutters and degraded finishes. The scope of our remedial works included:

  • Identifying and removing areas of spalling concrete
  • Grit blasting steelwork to remove corrosion and respraying the steel members to provide a corrosion protection layer
  • Finishing the area by applying a modified repair mortar
  • Drainage upgrades

The project team also performed urgent remedial repairs to the basement embankment, which had collapsed from water seepage. This involved grooming loose soil, drilling and grouting anchors, fixing drainage and securing galvanised steel mesh, and performing shotcreting to the repaired areas.

The project’s successful outcome was the result of the team adapting their working methods to respond to the client’s needs across the project.
