With both firms committed to supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), Buildcorp has been engaged midway through the concept design phase to complete the fit-out works for Arup’s new Brisbane premises.

Arup is committed to pursuing the Living Building Challenge (LBC) for all new office fit-outs across AUNZ with over 50 staff. The LBC, a globally recognised certification from the International Living Future Institute, sets the benchmark for sustainable and regenerative buildings. It is considered one of the world’s most rigorous standards for sustainable design, applicable to all building types.

Arup’s new Brisbane office will serve as a proof of concept, showcasing “what good looks like” in sustainable development and challenging our project team and subcontractor network to redefine best-practice standards. Spanning three levels, the workplace will feature Indigenous artworks, sustainable and salvaged materials, bespoke high-end finishes, and unique design elements that foster collaboration, celebration, and a demonstration of Arup’s capabilities.

There will be several major spaces delivered as part of Hassell’s design intent. The Forum space, a modular area for town hall settings will feature modular seated staircase and double height bleachers for ease of collaboration. The Greenhouse, also on L26, will see louvres installed to the external walls of the tower – offering a major element of biophilic design, or ‘bringing the outside in’ to the area. Several segments of the office will be raised from ground level, and a sawtooth canopy design feature in the ceiling will evoke a ‘natural typography’ to the space, connecting stories of Country.

Located within the 123 Albert Street tower, the new premises will house approximately 800 staff, making it Arup’s largest office in Australia.
