Buildcorp named an ‘Employer of Choice’ Winner 2018

Buildcorp is honoured to be the first construction business recognised with an ‘Employer of Choice’ award by the Australian Business Awards. The program awards leaders in business, innovation and technology, with the Employer of Choice accolade recognising workplaces that maximise the potential of their workforce through effective recruitment, engagement and retention.

Buildcorp understands that our people’s values and expertise are core drivers behind our success as a business and as a construction project partner. Therefore, we aim to empower and engage our workforce with career opportunities and a ‘Culture of Choice’ that people enjoy being part of.

Australian Business Awards Program Director, Ms Tara Johnston said: “Employers that adopt leadership and management practices that engage and motivate individuals to achieve a high standard of performance have been recognised in this year’s Employer of Choice Awards.”

“It is important that employers invest in the education, training and development of their workforce as key to future growth, innovation and achieving high performance.” Ms Johnston added.

Buildcorp’s founders Tony Sukkar AM and Josephine Sukkar AM said: “Our heartfelt thanks go to the 300+ people that choose to work at Buildcorp and bring their best to work every day. Buildcorp’s people are an extension of our family and as such, our business has grown with a set of values that our people identified as genuine to how we work. This has not only helped us achieve recognition as an Employer of Choice, but also resulted in many successful projects, industry leading safety and quality systems, loyal suppliers and long-term client partnerships.

Our people continually tell us that Buildcorp is a great place to work. We like to think that our ‘Culture of Choice’ plays a big part in this, as well as a commitment to support people to Be More with personal and career development opportunities.”

5 Pillars of Buildcorp’s ‘Culture of Choice’
  1. Genuine values identified by our people

Since our beginnings in 1990, our corporate values have evolved into our difference. To ensure these values were genuine, a cross section of the business worked together to define them: Teamwork, Creative Thinking, Continual Learning, Passion, Preparedness, Fair Play and Social Responsibility. These values underpin everything we do; they are the backbone of Buildcorp’s reputation and the collective attitude of our company.

  1. Supporting personal & career development

We recognise the importance of supporting the development of our people and providing opportunities for experience and progression. Our career pathways are supported with regular learning and development opportunities in both technical skills and ‘soft skills’. We offer flexibility for our people to gain experience in different types of: projects, roles, teams, locations and leadership responsibilities. Thanks to this, 93% of our people recommend Buildcorp as a great place to work.

  1. Collective giving spirit
The Buildcorp’s Foundation’s 2018 Lifeline donation

Giving back has been in our DNA from day one. Buildcorpers regularly give their time, talent, dollars and influence to make a difference in the community. To harness our collective giving power, we established the Buildcorp Foundation in 2014. Over the last five years the Foundation has raised over $2m and pledged $1.6m to support mental health and suicide prevention, an issue close to all our hearts.

  1. Leading by example

Buildcorp’s leaders embody our values and promote our collaborative culture throughout our partnerships. Currently 100% of Executive Management are from internal promotion, which means they have helped shaped the business into what it is today. Collaboration for us is also about working alongside partners with aligned values, so the decisions our leaders make consider the outcomes not just for today, but for long term viability. Testament to this is our high volume of repeat and referral business; 90% of our clients would recommend us as a partner.

  1. Balanced teams

Whether in rugby or construction, Buildcorp supports our own balanced teams and aims to provide the same pathway opportunities for both men and women to succeed and become leaders. Our investment and commitment to gender diversity and inclusion has resulted in consistently higher female representation in our workforce (currently 83% higher than our industry average) and stronger, more diverse teams.
