A fusion of heritage and hospitality, with the landmark Prefecture 48, Azabu Group set out to transform the 1886 Foley Brothers Warehouse into a first-of-its-kind luxury Japanese dining precinct in the heart of Sydney.
Once home to Australia’s largest produce markets, the historic warehouse has been meticulously redeveloped into an immersive culinary district featuring six food and beverage venues, each offering a unique experience and telling its own story. A visionary extension of Japan’s 47 prefectures, guests can now explore the refined collection across 1,400 square meters, including Bar Garaku, Five, Omakase, Japanese whisky bar Whiskey Thief, and patisserie Dear Florence.
Given the precinct is considered the most authentic 19th-century warehouse courtyard in Sydney, it was key to ensure the building’s Victorian-era legacy was preserved and enhanced through the project. Involved early, Buildcorp’s works included major services upgrades, restaurant fit-outs, a new goods lift core excavated by hand, revitalisation of the courtyard, and the addition of end-of-trip facilities and a new waste room in the basement.
We’re proud to have delivered another destination hospitality precinct in Sydney’s CBD that has a positive impact on strengthening the food and wine culture.
The success of this project is a testament to true partnership and collaboration. Thank you to our project partners: Bates Smart, Clutch, Euroline, Gerry Heaton Consulting and Aston Consulting.
