Remediation of 'Auction House' floor

In 2013, Sydney Fish Market engaged Buildcorp’s Asset Solutions team under an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract to assist in developing a remediation strategy for the degraded floor of ‘Auction House’. The project team worked closely with the floor managers of Auction House to develop a staging plan and work schedule that minimised the impact of our work on their continuing trading. A successful collaboration with the client and their consultants during the ECI phase delivered a program and budget for the remediation works that maximised value and mitigated procurement risk for the client.

It was imperative for the client that works commenced quickly. Years of heavy use had left the floor of Auction House in a poor state of disrepair, with delaminated topping, spalling, impact damage, and insufficient falls and drainage. The project team promptly delivered the works under a construction management arrangement. This project was characterised by the innovation of the team to understand and adapt their working methods to the unique challenges of working in this live environment. The works were performed in seven stages with minimal impact on the operations of Auction House, through the use of hydro demolition robots, fibreglass reinforcing bars for the slabs and a Sikafloor 20N, 21N and 30N PurCem system for the floor topping.
