Following the success of Shell House, Buildcorp was thrilled to partner once again with The Point* to lead an ambitious 12-week design and construction program for three distinctly international venues within the heritage-listed, Harry Seidler-designed MLC Centre.

The project required a seamless transformation of an existing venue to reflect the signature style patrons expect from The Point*, incorporating distinctive finishes, lighting, and design elements, all while preserving key heritage features of the Harry Seidler-designed MLC Centre. Minor back-of-house adjustments were made to remaining compliant with existing approvals – streamlining the process and avoiding delays. Our team delivered this three-level refurbishment within a condensed 12-week timeframe.

During preconstruction, our team worked to rationalise design elements and provide alternative solutions to maintain programme targets. Key design elements include:

  • The Wine Bar: Clad in rich florentine walnut along both the ceiling and walls, this space combines decorative carpet and custom furniture to create an inviting atmosphere for casual dining. The bar extends into a revitalised courtyard that features Charles Perry’s 1997 “S” sculpture, adding a unique artistic touch.
  • The Grill: Guests are welcomed by timber-clad walls and ceilings, leading to a cocktail bar and an open-plan kitchen. Geometric marble tiling and an open courtyard offer a seamless transition for outdoor dining.
  • The Panorama Bar: The re-imagined bar and courtyard feature updated paving and bar installations, allowing guests to soak in the iconic views of Martin Place.

Noise and operational restrictions posed challenges, as nearby hospitality tenancies had to remain undisturbed throughout. Buildcorp implemented a strict work schedule and notification process to meet these requirements, ensuring zero disruption and on-time delivery.

The end result is an elevated, re-imagined venue embodying The Point*’s renowned atmosphere, ready to welcome patrons in the heart of Sydney’s vibrant hospitality scene.
