Toombul Entertainment and Dining Precinct

The Toombul Shopping Centre project consisted of a mall extension to accommodate a new dining precinct, external community space including an interactive water feature, 14 new tenancies, new amenities, car parking and a link bridge connection to Widdop Street.

The construction process consisted of driven piles supporting six suspended post tensioned slabs. The suspended slabs connected two existing buildings as well as an entry bridge connection to Widdop Street. The new external tenancies were constructed using structural steel and blockwork.

The food court upgrade included infilling part of the existing atrium void with three Bondek slabs, complete new floor and ceiling linings, in-ground grease trap and upgrade of all services, creating space for two new tenancies and increasing the GFA on level 1.

The project included extensive vertical transport upgrades throughout the western mall consisting of four new lifts and travellators.

All works were completed in a live environment with extensive use of hoardings, gantries, planning and innovation to maintain public access and emergency egress paths always throughout the 12 month project.

Examples of the challenges dealing with the live environment included major mechanical plant lifts over public space and high-level atrium works over the food court.
