Buildcorp-constructed Menzies Bar open to public this week

We are very excited about the imminent opening of Buildcorp-constructed Menzies Bar & Bistro on Thursday 14 October. The Menzies Bar, named in tribute to the Menzies Hotel which opened in 1963, sits within the impressive Brookfield Place development and is the first phase of three stunning restaurant and bar destinations within Sydney CBD’s historic building, Shell House.

The Buildcorp team collaborated with highly esteemed project partners to identify and navigate the inherent challenges faced in the heritage building owned and restored by Brookfield Properties.

The services were constrained due to existing site conditions and ceiling heights and the team were required to manage around an existing substation to install drainage and waste for a commercial kitchen, bar and bathroom amenities.

Despite these challenges and the looming pressure of Sydney’s lockdown, Buildcorp’s project team forged ahead and handed over the bar one week ahead of schedule.

Throughout the project’s programme Buildcorp worked closely with interior stylists, designers and artists to deliver the bespoke ambiance of the project including a tube rolled, welded and polished bar, sculptures, tiled tables and detailed painted finishes. The scope also included some base building façade reconfiguration, awning works and landscaping for the external terraces.

Works at Shell House are ongoing, with Buildcorp’s team currently constructing the two-storey rooftop restaurant due for opening in November.
