Scape at University of Sydney is a 13-storey student accommodation building for 456 students with a separate chaplain, administration and worship facilities on levels 1 to 4 for the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney.
Scape at University of Sydney (formerly known as Urbanest City Road) adjoined the existing Sydney University JFR Plaza and was a perfect example of the power of collaborative working to solve complex and challenging construction challenges.
With building works to 100% of the site and with sensitive traffic management requirements to the front and rear, significant planning and logistics management were required to achieve construction
efficiencies. Solutions such as the relocation, maintenance and reinstatement of Sydney University trees enabled Buildcorp’s team to minimise the impact of the City Road clearway. Sequencing adjustments such as the delay of the slab to enable truck access to our central lifting zone was also vital.
Urbanest City Road is testament to the power of creative thinking and collaborative working. Together the team overcame logistical issues, heritage constraints and the complex delivery of something, which on the surface looks standardised, but in reality was fully customised. The outcome is the reinvigoration of a significant heritage building into a modern day workplace and the benchmark for student accommodation in the Sydney market.
The project involved the retention and restoration of the existing heritage building (Cypress Hall) and the construction of new accommodation facilities for current and future generations of students.
