The University of Queensland Residential Refurbishment

A comprehensive upgrade of student accommodation facilities including kitchens and bedrooms, focused on delivering modern, high-quality living spaces. 

The 48 Walcott Street Refurbishment project at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus delivers an upgraded student accommodation facility through the refurbishment of 67 units; comprising of 134 bedrooms and 67 kitchens.

The project delivered a comprehensive refurbishment of the student accommodation, upgrading kitchenettes, bedrooms, appliances, joinery and providing a full repaint, all completed within a tight operational program. Internal spaces were enhanced to improve comfort, usability and durability without altering the building footprint, with works carefully managed to protect adjacent buildings, services and public areas and to minimise disruption to the surrounding university environment.

Buildcorp delivered the project as a full turnkey package, managing design coordination, construction, compliance and project administration to ensure a smooth, fast and high‑quality upgrade.

The refurbishment required careful staging and sequencing to complete multiple units concurrently, alongside additional upgrades such as new mechanical ventilation and make‑up air systems to improve overall amenity. This planning enabled the team to maintain momentum and deliver the works within a compressed programme.
