New heights celebrated as The Bond reaches topping out

It was a very proud day on Tuesday 27 September, as Buildcorp celebrated the Topping Out of The Bond in Norwest, marking a huge milestone achievement for the team.

Key project partners Mulpha, JMJ and Centuria accompanied members of the Buildcorp team to commemorate the completion of the building structure with a ceremonial Lilly Pilly tree, symbolising growth. The ceremony was a day of significance for the project, which began in late 2020.

With the structure now completed, services are well on the way and work has begun on the internal fitouts. The Bond will comprise a ground floor retail environment, a gym, six floors of commercial office building, a childcare facility, end-of-trip facilities (showers, changerooms and bicycle storage), basement carparking, short-term visitor parking and service vehicle and loading facilities.

The Bond is amongst Australia’s first health facilities purpose built from mass timber. Buildcorp’s Environmental Plan demonstrates our commitment to sustainability with a bold vision to be a carbon neutral business by 2040. Our involvement in this project is a considerable growth milestone towards this vision.

Buildcorp’s strong expertise in health and mass timber construction has seen the team develop solutions to fortify the oncology bunker and carefully manage the timber through its procurement, logistics, installation and testing.

“The Bond is Buildcorp’s fourth mass timber project. Our team has developed and implemented more than 20 proactive safety and quality initiatives for The Bond, while navigating all the impacts of COVID-19 and wet weather.

“Our enduring relationship with valued partners Mulpha, JMJ and Centuria has gone from strength to strength, with this state-of-the-art building establishing a new industry benchmark.

“Buildcorp will continue supporting our valued partners in delivering the integrated fit-outs within The Bond.”

Designed by Architects fitzpatrick & partners together with structural engineers TTW, cross-laminated timber (CLT) technology has been incorporated into the design for the 1600m² floorplates, walls, and stairs, as well as Glulam timber columns and beams for the structural frame. It will be just the third commercial building in Sydney to be built this way. Just recently, testing of the timber structure for this building took place at the CSIRO testing facility to ensure all Australian Certifications are achieved.

“For patients, it means they have a one-stop shop for their healthcare needs where they don’t need to travel too far for specialist treatment.”

Buildcorp’s experience in delivering mass timber structures has informed the logistics solution for The Bond. When completed, the project will be a significant addition to Buildcorp’s portfolio of mass timber projects, utilising lessons learnt to fortify our expertise in the specialisation.
