The University of Queensland, Sports Amenities Building

Design and construction of two thoughtfully planned wings, featuring soccer change rooms, accessible amenities, storage areas, first aid facilities, and a dedicated function space.

The Sports Amenities building is situated between UQ Sports Ovals 2 & 3 and has two separate wings comprising of soccer change rooms, toilets, showers, storerooms and first aid facilities in one wing. The opposite wing contains AFL change rooms, toilets, showers, physio and ref rooms. The two wings join at the western end of the building where there is a function area and servery.

The project required a high involvement with Brisbane City Council due to tree lopping before commencement of civil works, and also with the University of Queensland during the design process.

The scope of works included:

• Design & construct contract
• Complete design of electrical & mechanical services
• The building is mainly constructed of blockwork including breeze blocks
• An underwater rain water tank was installed in the ground between the 2 wings in the player warm up area
• Predominantly exposed concrete flooring and tiles
