The Goldsbrough Mort wool store building in Pyrmont was redeveloped into a residential unit block in 2003. As part of this redevelopment, 12 storeys of balconies were installed to the inner lane way facade by way of a steel frame suspended from the upper levels.
Buildcorp’s original scope of works was to remove the existing decking on theupper level and install new decking, waterproofing and tiling as well as
other ancillary works.
Once the decks had been removed, large amounts of corrosion was found on the surface of the steel and after further investigation, it was discovered that the corrosion was more significant than was first anticipated.
Buildcorp then worked with the consultant to devise a repair strategy incorporating replacement of some members and plate welding in other areas. An industrial coating was then applied to the steelwork prior to installing the new balcony decks, all delivered under a thorough Quality system.
Access was afforded via a hanging scaffolding frame pinned into the face of the existing building structure
