Buildcorp executed extensive remedial and restoration works to an iconic part of Darling Point’s heritage, including full in-situ restoration of heritage steel window frames.
Built in the late 1940s, the owners of the Nevada Apartment complex decided to embark on upgrade and remedial works to restore the art-deco inspired building to its original grand style.
The most complex part of the project involved the restoration of the original heritage steel window frames. Due to the initial construction detail, the windows could not be removed to carry out remediation works, so works were carried out in-situ including removal of lead paint, application of a new epoxy coating and replacement with Low E glass panes. Due to the scale of the works, this is believed to be the largest in-situ heritage window restoration undertaken in Sydney.
Other works involved in the delivery of the project included the re-construction of the original balconies, which were found to be in a significant state of disrepair; replacement of brick balustrades with glass and aluminium options; the full scale repair and restoration of all facades including render repairs and repainting and extensive fire upgrades to applicable standards and requirements.
Despite the complexities of access and the detailed in-situ window remediation works, Buildcorp’s close collaboration with the client’s representative and expertise in delivering technically challenging projects enabled the works to be carried out with the residents remaining in place for the duration of the project.
